Every year we have increasing numbers of applications to the Trust which means that demands on the fund totally outstrip our limited resources. We are very fortunate that NUJ members continue to support the work of the Fund.
This year we were delighted to receive a generous donation from the BBC.

So that we can continue to offer much-needed help to Black and Asian students committed to a career in journalism, it is important that we build our fundraising work. That’s where you can help!

Whether it is a personal donation, a sponsored activity, or a fundraising event – there are lots of ways you can help raise money for a great cause.

If you’re an NUJ member – how about organising a whip round after a chapel meeting? Or holding a quiz night or a press ball in support of the George Viner Memorial Fund? The more adventurous might be up for a sponsored parachute jump, Marathon attempt or epic bicycle race! Don’t forget that some companies operate their own charitable trusts and encourage staff to nominate their favourite charities as beneficiaries – let your company know the great work the fund is doing to get more black and asian journalists into the media industry.

We operate on a very small budget – every donation makes a huge difference and lets us help more ethnic minority students get their first foot on the journalistic ladder.

For more information about how you can get involved email georgeviner@nuj.org.uk.

And of course, all personal donations are very gratefully received. Please send a cheque made payable to The George Viner Memorial Fund to: Audrey Witter, Administrator to George Viner Memorial Fund Trust, NUJ, Headland House, 308-312 Gray’s Inn Road, London WC1X 8DP.
