The timetable for applications for courses taking place in 2012/13 is as follows:

Applications received outside of the deadline will not be considered and applies to courses in the 2012/13 academic year – even if courses start in, for example, January 2013.

Before applying to the fund, please read the Conditions of Sponsorship to ensure you meet the criteria. All applicants must return a signed version of the Conditions of Sponsorship with their completed application form, indicating they will comply with all the conditions. For more detailed guidance on completing form, please read the application guidance notes.

Once you have done that, please fill in the application form. It is particularly important that you put down all your predicted costs for the course - including fees, travel, accommodation expenses, books and other equipment.

Completed forms can be emailed to georgeviner@nuj.org.uk or posted to Gayle Baldwin, Administrator to George Viner Memorial Fund Trust, NUJ, Headland House, 308-312 Gray’s Inn Road, London WC1X 8DP.

As a George Viner Scholar you will receive much more than financial assistance. You will be invited to open days, conferences and meetings relating to your chosen field of journalism and have the support of the trustees throughout your course. All scholars must attend the annual ceremony, held in February, which is attended by journalists and industry leaders.

You are also encouraged to join the NUJ as a student member and, once you qualify, as a full member. The benefits of being a member of the union are extensive – for more information about the union go to www.nuj.org.uk and to join as a student member go to http://www.nujtraining.org.uk/studentreg.phtml

Good luck with your application!
