The George Viner Memorial Fund was established in 1986 to help increase the number of Black and Asian journalists working in the UK. One of the biggest barriers to entering the media is the cost of gaining the high level of qualifications needed. Therefore a fund was established to provide funding to Black and Asian students taking a journalism course. The fund became a Registered Trust in 1989, charity number 328142.

Since its inception the Trust has supported over 100 students through college and into work. Find out more about George Viner.

If you are a Black or Asian student and have applied for a journalism course, then you may wish to apply for funding from the George Viner Memorial Fund.

In 1993 the fund was expanded to include a prize for the best piece of journalism on multicultural Britain. For more information go to the Felix Dearden section of this website.
